Our program provides a unique ambulatory care experience that is mixed between a traditional residency clinic and a community-based clinic. During the three years of residency, the residents will spend a half-day a week in the Westown Primary Health Center seeing a variety of patients under the supervision of a faculty member. The level of supervision adjusts based on the level, confidence and the developing skills of the resident. This mini practice style model is designed to stimulate the primary care practice environment in an educational atmosphere.
During their third year, each resident will spend an additional half-day a week in a private practice office seeing patients under the supervision of a private attending physician. These offices are located on the Westside of Cleveland, close to Fairview Hospital. This community-based learning model will enhance the skills of patient care, office management and office procedures, which are already learned in the other setting.
Additional ambulatory care experience is received in the Emergency Medicine rotation and other elective rotations throughout the three years of residency.
