Resident Activities

Annual Graduation Dinner

Congratulations to our six graduating residents from the Class of 2011:  Matt Andresen, MD; Colleen Clayton, MD; Evelyn Hemmingsen, MD; Lisa Mementowski, DO; Reid Perala, MD; Jessica Tonozzi, MD.  Graduates and their families, friends and colleagues all enjoyed this special event. Good luck in your future endeavors.  You will be missed.

Annual Residency Retreat

Each year we have 6 new residents, and their families and/or significant others join our large family. So every year in September or October the program sponsors a retreat for all residents to foster team building, social interaction, and a little learning. Families and significant others are invited to participate in any or all of the activities.

Our retreat was again a highlight of our year, with each resident class together with members of the faculty participating as teams in activities to foster leadership skills, especially team development and team leadership strategies to match the stage of team development. The highlight of the day was the “Flying Thing” competition in which teams created a rocket to launch their astronaut “into the stratosphere and beyond”. A good time was had by all.  Dr. Kelly has now become our "Retreat Master" organizing three different retreat formats so that each resident gets to participate in all three formats during their three years in the program.  The goals of the retreats are to have fun, gel as teams within resident classes, and learn an approach to leadership development and problem solving in a team.

Following the retreat, the residents organize their own get-together either at a restaurant or at one of the resident's homes.

Annual Graduation Luncheon

Every year the Center for Family Medicine staff celebrate with the graduating residents by holding a luncheon.  All CFM staff contribute to the luncheon by sharing their ideas for a graduation theme, decorating the conference room  and/or bringing their favorite dish.

There is a “roast” for each graduating resident.  Every year is different, as we have an MC who performs skits and interesting facts about the graduating residents.  The graduating residents, in turn, share their appreciation to the faculty and staff.

Annual Holiday Get-Together

This year's Holiday Gathering was held at the Rocky River Recreation Center, in Rocky River, Ohio. Santa dropped in with gifts for all the kids, while the adults enjoyed seeing old friends and listening to Christmas music.  The residents also participate in a Secret Santa event with other staff during the holidy season.

Personal Fun:
Although residents spend plenty of time on their rotations and at the hospital, they still have time for family and friends.
