What Is Cleveland Like?
Cleveland has a wide array of things to do.  Whether you are a fine arts or cultural enthusiast, sports fanatic, enjoy a busy downtown nightlife, relaxing by the water or hiking the great outdoors, Cleveland has it all.

If you are a cultural enthusiast, the University Circle area is the place for you. University Circle is just a few minutes from downtown Cleveland.

There are several arts and cultural institutions, including the
Cleveland Museum of Art, the Natural History MuseumBotanical GardensCleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Playhouse

The Cleveland Institute of Art is undergoing major new construction and renovation.  Not only does the museum house a great permanent collection, but also hosts major traveling exhibits.

The Nearby Cleveland Institute of Art houses the
Cinematheque, which shows modern art films as well as film classics.

Little Italy is 5 minutes away, up Mayfield Road. This small, old world neighborhood is the home of great Italian restaurants, art galleries and shops.  Up the hill in Cleveland Heights are more funky restaurants, a gelateria, coffee houses, and the Cedar Lee Theatre, which shows an interesting variety of art and independent movies (and you can order a glass of wine at the refreshment counter along with your popcorn).

After a day of fine arts, try heading to downtown Cleveland.  Downtown Cleveland is just the right size.  You can enjoy a downtown atmosphere, without the hustle and bustle of the big cities.

If you’re still in the museum mode, you can visit the more contemporary museums, such as the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, or the Great Lakes Science CenterPlayhouse Square  is the home to several large theatres that host traveling Broadway plays, live music, comedy entertainers, ballet and opera performances.

If you want to enjoy the nightlife of downtown Cleveland, there’s non-stop action. You can enjoy fabulous restaurants and clubs in the West 6th District or the West Bank of the Flats. Hard Rock CaféHouse of BluesShooters on the RiverPickWick & FrolicBlue Point GrilleD’Vine Wine, the Improv are just a few of the hot-spots in the downtown area.

Other popular areas for nightlife with restaurants, bars and shopping are the
Tremont area, Ohio CityCoventry, and the Lakewood area, all within 5-10 minutes of downtown.

If you’re a Cleveland sports fan, you can check out the Cleveland BrownsCavs or Indians.  The newest Cleveland sport team is the professional hockey team called the Lake Erie Monsters.  All sports facilities are in the downtown area.

If
golf is your game, there are numerous courses throughout Cleveland and nearby cities.

Now off to the west side, to the home of our very own Fairview Hospital.  On your way to the west side, a great stop is the West Side Market.  The West Side Market is home to over 120 vendors selling tasty ethnic specialties in a dozen languages.  A block away from the market are several wine bars and good restaurants, including the Great Lakes Brewing Company, a microbrewery pub, and The Harp, an Irish pub.

In Westlake, a west-side suburb of Cleveland, you will find
Crocker Park.  Crocker Park is more than a shopping Center or mall.  It is essentially a newly constructed village with stores, restaurants, offices, and residences.  Hundreds of people gather nightly to stroll, eat outdoors, peruse the bookstore, shop at Trader Joe's, or just play chess on the main street.

If you want to travel about an hour west of Cleveland, you can also enjoy
Cedar Point, one of the top amusement parks in the country.  Want a taste of the island life?  Hop on the Miller Ferry or Jet Express to Lake Erie’s Put-in-Bay or Kelly’s Island

If you are a nature lover or just love being outdoors, you will enjoy hiking or bicycling in the
Metroparks, with trails located in several areas throughout Cleveland and surrounding areas.  Some of the “Emerald Necklace” favorites are the Ohio Erie & Canal Reservation, North Chagrin Reservation, tobogganing at Mill Stream Run, and Squires Castle.  Another impressive hiking and biking area is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park

There are also great beaches along the Cleveland Lake Erie Coastline, including Huntington Beach, Edgewater and Mentor-on-the-Lake.  Other favorite water pastimes are boating, fishing and kayaking.

In addition to all the amenities mentioned, Cleveland has two other features which are important for residents.  Cleveland is a major medical city for clinical care, training, research and innovation, and home of the world renowned
Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University.  This provides many educational opportunities for our residents.

The other important feature is affordability of living in Cleveland. Cleveland offers a wide variety of
housing options in safe neighborhoods within easy driving distance of the hospital.
