Letter from Our Cancer Network
In 2005 we formed a Network combining the cancer programs at both Fairview Hospital and Lakewood Hospital. We have completed the integration, and our programs underwent a preliminary review by the American College of Surgeons earlier this year. Our formal Network Review will occur in 2008.
In concert with this change, we have fully integrated our Cancer Committees into a single committee, and our Tumor Registry services have also been merged. Our data will in future be reported as a single entity.
Our Clinical Trials program has additionally been merged with the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center clinical trials program, and shortly we will further integrate with the Case Comprehensive Cancer clinical trials program. This will enable us to expand the range of clinical trials available to our patients.
The Cancer Center at Fairview Hospital recently underwent a survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAHO) as part of a formal survey of Fairview Hospital itself. The Cancer Center scored high marks, and no deficiencies were found.
In this current report, we have reviewed our data for both Prostate Cancer and CNS tumors. As the numbers of the tumors are small, comparative data is difficult to interpret, however, we feel that our therapy results are comparable to or exceed national norms.
