Cancer conferences are weekly, multidisciplinary meetings that discuss first course treatment options for patients before their therapy begins. Conferences are held every Friday at Fairview Hospital, attended by Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, Surgeons, Diagnostic Radiologists, Internal Medicine physicians, residents, nurses and other Allied Health professionals.
Typically three to four patient cases are presented every week. Each managing physician presents his or her case for discussion of diagnosis and/or treatment by the participating disciplines. Local and national guest speakers are also invited to educational didactic cancer conferences, to present on subjects varying from Advances in treatment of breast cancer, prostate and non small-cell lung cancer.
Fairview Hospital also holds weekly multidisciplinary breast cancer conferences. Representatives of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Pathology, and Nursing attend these conferences. Similar multidisciplinary lung conferences are scheduled once a month. Breast cancer conferences are conducted in a similar fashion, but focus on breast cancer only. This conference meets three times per month.
