Electrophysiology

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY is the specialized study of the heart’s electrical system.  If an electrical dysfunction is detected, studies can be performed in our Electrophysiology (EP) Lab.  These tests provide precise information about a patient with an irregular heartbeat.  Many patients who have rhythm problems report vague symptoms of fainting, dizziness or heart palpitations.  Some patients go through electrophysiology testing after surviving a life-threatening sudden death episode.  Through an electrophysiology study, these problems can be diagnosed and treated.

If your physician diagnoses an electrical dysfunction, he or she may recommend the implantation of a pacemaker of defibrillator.

  • The PACEMAKER is a small, battery-operated device that helps your heart beat in a regular rhythm. To learn more about pacemakers, click here.
  • A DEFIBRILLATOR is a small device that helps reestablish normal contractual rhythms in a heart that is not functioning properly. To learn more about defibrillators, click here.
