Pediatric Emergency Care, Close to Home
A sick or hurt child is every parent’s nightmare. And emergency room visits are becoming more frequent for children in the United States.
Fairview Hospital offers the only state-of-the-art pediatric emergency medicine services on Cleveland's west side. That’s life-saving news when your child needs help fast.
“A pediatric emergency department blends the art and science of medicine,” said Emory Petrack, medical director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Fairview Hospital. “Children are not just little adults. They have very specific needs. The time spent communicating with them when doing a procedure is different. That’s where the art of medicine emerges.”
About the Pediatric ED
In the heat of an emergency, you want to just concentrate on helping your child get healthy. Fast. Whether it’s a sudden illness or injury, we are ready and open 24/7, including holidays, to care for your child in a kid-safe, family-friendly environment. Because it’s important for your child to receive the best emergency care available, Fairview’s Pediatric Emergency Department is the right place to be. That’s because we are dedicated to treating children under the age of 17.
The Pediatric Emergency Department at Fairview Hospital is a part of the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital Pediatric Emergency Medicine Network. This network was created to bring together the strengths of Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Hospital outpatient practices, Cleveland Clinic Health System hospitals and independent community physicians to provide our community with the highest level of pediatric emergency care that is available.
Expert Physicians and Nurses
Our comprehensive pediatric emergency department is staffed with physicians who are dually-boarded in pediatrics and emergency medicine, and registered nurses with advanced training in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), your child will receive the highest level of care available. Typical Emergency Rooms do not have the advanced training devoted just for children and Urgent Care Centers do not treat severe illness or injury. We do both. This results in a safer, kid-friendly environment for your child to receive treatment.
In addition to injury and severe illness, we are here to treat your child’s minor illnesses and injuries when your pediatrician’s office is closed.
If your child requires advanced care, we collaborate with our Pediatric Department, pediatric surgeons and other in-house specialty services. And we are supported by Fairview’s status as a Level II Trauma Center. This is all excellent news when your child is having an emergency.
