Internal Medicine Residency Program

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Fairview Hospital. Our program is dedicated to providing outstanding medical education that equips future internists with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional patient care in inpatient and outpatient settings. We aim to enhance medical knowledge by fostering clinical expertise and promoting the fundamentals of medical research.

Our program boasts a team of 36 categorical residents and two preliminary residents whom our esteemed core faculty members dedicatedly supervise. Our graduates possess the expertise to deliver exceptional care, leading to favorable clinical outcomes and satisfied patients. We prioritize innovation, teamwork, compassion, quality, and patient safety in our academic setting.

The program is built upon the foundational values of the esteemed Cleveland Clinic. We place great importance on prioritizing patients, caregivers, community, and organizational values. Our residents receive exceptional clinical training, including hands-on experience in hospital medicine, critical care units, and continuity clinics. Additionally, our program features a comprehensive code simulation curriculum, developed in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA), as well as thorough procedural simulation training.

Our residents actively engage in multiple patient safety and quality committees. They present research projects at regional and national conferences, publish, and have won numerous awards.

About Fairview Hospital

Fairview Hospital, situated on the West Side of Cleveland, was founded in 1892. The hospital's internal medicine residency program was established in 1962. In 2017, our program became part of the Cleveland Clinic's graduate medical education program. With 488 beds, Fairview is the flagship hospital of Cleveland Clinic's regional hospitals in western Cleveland. It is a tertiary care facility and a level II trauma center known for its expertise and quality care in the region and throughout Ohio.

Key Affiliations

Fairview Hospital is a non-profit academic medical center and a subsidiary of the renowned Cleveland Clinic Health System (CCHS). We are affiliated with Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Cleveland and Northeast Ohio Medical University and host students who rotate on our services.

Successful Alumni

Our residency program was founded in 1962 at Lutheran Hospital, and the first graduates received their diplomas in 1965. Many of our graduates have remained in the Cleveland area and are now practicing at Fairview. Others have pursued fellowships and returned to Cleveland to set up their own practices or have joined as hospitalists. Our graduates are practicing in every part of the United States.
